If you are using an older version of
Google android smartphone like Gingerbread application and you
have windows 8.1 running on your PC or laptop computer; you maybe not be able to
import any photos or movies from your smartphone storage into the
computer.
Why? For one thing windows 8.1 is set
to Autoplay all media device, which allows for the Dropbox cloud
application on your computer desktop to be the default import
device. And this is where the problem comes in. The older version of
Android is not compatible with Windows 8.1. It may work
for some people. But it does not work for me. I found this out
when I attempted to download the Dropbox app unto my smartphone from
the Google Playstore, and I got a message saying that my smartphone is
not compatible with this device.
The Solution.
- Need to Bypass DROPBOX
You need to deselect Dropbox. This will stop Dropbox from automatically loading as the default transferring or import device. From your desk top go to Start menu and click on tile icon (purple icon in the lower right) in the search box enter the word autoplay.
1 |
When the autoplay
screen comes up, make sure the top box is deselected, it must be
empty.
2 |
Save the change and go back to your
desktop.
Now connect your smartphone to the
computer by inserting your USB cable into your usb slot on your computer.
Next find either your PC icon or click
on the File explorer icon(found on the taskbar) this will take to the PC main
area. The Screen should say at the top ‘This PC’.
Look for the Drives and double click
on the Removable disk drive (usually drive F or G).
3 |
It will take you to your smartphone
storage area. See the next screen shot below.
4 |
All the information on your smartphone
is shown here. You need to look for the word DCIM. It is a
4 letter word written in Capital letters. It is found in the middle
this folder. Double click on it, you are now taken to the next
screen.
5 |
Which is the camera folder. Double click the camera folder, it is highlighted in blue in the screen shot above. And below this how it looks when you double click on it.
6 |
In this folder all your jpeg and movie files are stored here. To select all the files at once. Just right click your mouse and drag, it will select all the files.
Then copy (Ctrl C) and then paste (
Ctrl V) either to your desktop or to your document folder> photo or >movie
folders. Or just right click and copy each image or movie. See screen shot below
7 |
I opened one of the image using photo gallery. This is
the image seen below.
8 |
And there you have it. No need to use Dropbox, instead save your images to your desktop or to your document folder.
If you are still having problem, you may
need to enable debugging on your smartphone.
In
Android, go into the Setting > then select Application > select
"Developer Options" and select “turn on USB
debugging".
